The Canadian Civil Liberties Association, a national organization that was constituted in 1964 to promote respect for and observance of fundamental human rights and civil liberties, is currently conducting a study on how police background checks are being used in the voluntary and private sectors. The study is being funded in part by the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
Volunteer organizations across the country are being contacted to set up interviews and learn more about the topic. No specific knowledge or expertise in this area is necessary. They are mostly interested in getting a basic survey of whether or not organizations are using police background checks and if so, how this information is used. All surveys are anonymous by default, both with respect to your name and to the name of the organization in which you work.
