Virtual Classroom to commemorate Remembrance Day 2012

Virtual Classroom to commemorate Remembrance Day 2012
What's daily life like for Canadian troops on the frontlines in Afghanistan? Members of the Royal 22e Régiment know—they were there, witnessing the complexity of the issues on the ground, and they help shed light on the little-understood experiences of the men and women who served in Afghanistan.

To mark Remembrance Day 2012, in partnership with the Canadian War Museum, the National Film Board of Canada (NFB) is offering students the rare opportunity to meet Royal 22e Régiment soldiers, in person or virtually, and to learn about their time in Afghanistan. These military men and women were the focus of the recent documentary The Van Doos in Afghanistan.

Our event, hosted by historian Dr. Andrew Burtch and Education team member Michèle Tredger, will take place at the Canadian War Museum in Ottawa; local students may attend in person and students from any Canadian school can link in through teleconferencing. This event is only suitable for students in Grades 9–12 and in college or CEGEP. One conversation will be held in French on November 6 and another in English on November 7—both at 1:30 p.m. EST. This event will be one hour in duration.

Teachers can download the educator's guide.

This event is offered free of charge with the purchase of the film. Space is limited for this event. Registration ends October 5.
